Participant: Gale Portman
Contribution: Storyteller
Bio:

Gale enjoys telling a variety of original and familiar stories. Drawing from her Vermont childhood, love of nature and acting experience, Gale paints vivid pictures for her audiences' imaginations. She encourages audience participation, providing parts to play or songs to sing. A member of MO-TELL and St. Louis Gateway Storytellers, Gale is also a creative dramatics teacher with COCA (Center for Contemporary Arts), an experiential nature educator, and an accredited T'ai Chi Chih instructor. Gale's goal as a storyteller is to connect personal experience to our common Human Story. With storytelling partner, Karen Young, Gale is on the artists' roster for Young Audiences of St. Louis and COCA. She has BFA in theatre from Stephens College, 1983. Acted in Hollywood, CA, and currently with Ed Reggi's theater improv company the Paper Slip Theater. Professional storyteller since 1992.

Participant: Karen Young
Contribution: Storyteller
Bio:

Karen Young believes her storytelling appeals to the “young at heart and ancient in spirit.” Her vivid character portrayals from history and folklore, as well as stories told in the voices from many lands and times, entertain and educate audiences at schools, museums, parks, workshops, malls and churches-wherever people are willing to sit a' spell and listen to a story well told. A professional storyteller since 1992, Karen has been featured at storytelling events throughout Missouri, Kansas and Illinois and delights in telling stories that promote self-discovery, creativity and a sense of wonder.
